Abstrakt

The contribution provides a critical overview about hyphenation of electrochemical methods (EC) with mass spectrometry (MS). It is focused on the difficulties of the electrochemical cell construction, selection of the electrodes and electrodes arrangements. Three possible applications of on-line EC/MS are introduced and discussed: (i) electrochemical activation of nonpolar chemicals, (ii) separation of chemicals using electrochemically generated nascent ions and (iii) studies of mechanisms of electrochemical reactions including the mimicking of the detoxification process provided using cytochrome P450.
