Abstract

An application of findings and methods of chemical engineering to improvement of chemical process safety and loss prevention is discussed. Current trends in chemical engineering are discussed with respect to a challenge for chemical engineers in an effort to improve chemical process safety. The characteristics and the state of the art in the Czech Republic are presented. The paper brings information on research of chemical process safety in the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic with an accent on safe disposal of persistant organic pollutants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls.
