Abstract

The article deals with evaluation of various types of binders and additives utilized for chemical stabilization of dangerous wastes. Attention is focused on cement and lime, on natural materials of clay type, and on industrial waste products such as calcium sulfate or fly ash. A principle of stabilization and requirements for disposal of wastes are described, and examples are given of some dangerous wastes envisaged for the use of the stabilization/solidification technology. Adverse effects of contaminants on chemical stabilization are also discussed.
