Abstract

The acetone-butanol-ethanol fermentation (ABE) is a process suitable for butan-1-ol production from some renewable resources. Unfortunately, ABE fermentation according to the current state of knowledge cannot compete with standard butanol production from oil. Methods of metabolic and genetic engineering could be used for improvement of some properties of solventogenic Clostridium strains like their resistance to butanol or final butanol concentration in media.
