Abstract

In the present work we describe the dielectric properties of the polymer dielectric poly[2-cyanoethyl(vinyl)ether] (CEPVA) derived from polyvinylalcohol (PVAL) by functionalization with cyanoethyl groups to various degrees. Cyanoethyl groups introduce strong permanent electrical dipoles into the polymer. Because of a good mobility of the side groups and polymer segments and a large value of the side group dipole moment, the polymer is easily polarized in the applied electric field. The polymer relaxation behavior was studied on CEPVA thin layers prepared by casting from solution in dimethylformamide, using the broadband dielectric spectroscopy of in the temperature range of –150 to +120 °C and in a wide frequency range of 10–2 – 107 Hz. This work brings useful information for the development of polymeric dielectric materials for flexible printed electronics.
