Abstract

Protective barrier materials designated against the effects of toxic compounds on human health have to fulfil a lot of normalized demands. These demands are mandatory for both producers of technological products and those of the final individual protective equipment. The resistivity of barrier materials has to be evaluated not only in the process of their development but also during their usage and shelf life. The present work reveals the changes in standard approaches to testing barrier materials against toxic compounds permeation in static and dynamic conditions. The main aim of this paper is to analyze specifications and differences among canceled standards ČSN EN ISO 6529 (2002) and ČSN EN 374-3 (2004) on the one side and newly established standards ČSN EN 16523-1 a 16523-2 (2015) on the other from the viewpoint of their impact into the field of practical testing of the protective clothing resistivity to toxic compounds. Our contribution should also invoke a broader discussion on declared approaches, methodologies and testing techniques with a focus on the specification and differences in particular areas (scope, terms and definitions).
