Abstract

The article deals with the methods of obtaining rate constants of first-order and pseudofirst-order consecutive reactions from time dependences of UV-VIS spectra, either whole or at selected wavelengths, and gives a method of unambiguous assignment of the constants to individual reaction steps. Common linearization methods of evaluation of the constants at a single wavelength were compared with the methods based on simple nonlinear regression combined with the principal component methods in a model system of 4-chloro-N-(4-nitrophenyl)butanamide. The precision of the methods was further compared with independent experimental second-order rate constants.
