Abstract

The review deals with hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO) used to produce hydrocarbon-based biofuels including diesel fuel and aviation fuel. The mechanism of transformation of vegetable oils into hydrocarbons is shown and the properties of the primary products are discussed. Also, chapters are devoted to commercial HVO products, their properties and their utilization as biocomponents for diesel and aviation fuel. The potential to reduce all regulated emissions (HC, CO, PM and NOx), as well as the greenhouse gases is mentioned.
